We've been speaking for too long, we've got to take action.

We need YOU!

"If you change nothing - Nothing will change"

We are calling on ALL South Africans to join us in BEING the change we want in our country. Find out how you can play a part in doing something about crime and its impact on our society.

The NICRO Help I am Free! "Together Against Crime" festival at Artscape Theatre Centre from 28 Sept to 1 Oct 2016 includes performances, an art and photo exhibition, seminars, workshops and talks related to topics of crime.

The Together Against Crime festival is the culmination of creative efforts of the inmates at Pollsmoor and Goodwood Prison, as well the greater communities, in partnership with Artscape and The Department of Correctional Services.

NICRO aims to stage the great work that all stakeholders are doing and to align and involve influential elements that can cast our plight for inmates and their communities much wider.

The Together Against Crime festival aims to provide information to the public regarding crime, the prison system and reintegration programmes, as well as an opportunity to the public to witness the prisoners’ process of transformation through their art.

The NICRO Help I am Free! programme uses theatre as a tool for rehabilitation of prisoners. For three years Help I am Free! performed plays with great success at Artscape. In 2016 we are proud to expand the programme to include a four day festival together with the performances.

“The Making of a Criminal”, a Performance by Goodwood Correctional Centre and Pollsmoor Inmates - BOOKED OUT DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND.

The Making of a Criminal, showing at Artscape Theatre from 28 Sept to 1 Oct 2016, is a theatre production, written and performed by 26 inmates from Pollsmoor and Goodwood Correctional Centres under the auspices of Help, I’m Free (NICRO, South Africa & Varde Theatre, Norway). The performance gives us a glimpse of the performers’ fatal choices and dark moments as well as their fragile dreams and hopes for the future, in brutal contrast to the uncertainties of their present circumstances. The Making of a Criminal informs how we are all responsible for the society we create and society, in turn, fashions who we become.
