Drinking and driving may seem okay to do at the time and people may shrug and say "I arrived home safe and no one was hurt, so why not do it?"

Mandela Day is more than a celebration of Madiba’s life and legacy.

It is a global movement to honour his life’s work and act to change the world for the better.

Do you want to lend a hand and spend your 67 minutes helping others? NICRO will be involved in a number of activities around the country…

Keep a look out for photos of the completed result!

  • NICRO Limpopo will be conducting their Mandela Day celebration on the 15th of July 2016 at the JSM Community Project – Road to the future.

It is a youth project in Ga-Molepo which addresses the challenges that face our youth. NICRO Limpopo will be assisting in cleaning the centre and will then conduct a crime and substance awareness campaign.

  • NICRO East London will be visiting one of the Child and Youth Care Centres on Mandela Day for 67 minutes.

NICRO East London identified John X Merrimen which houses children in conflict with the law awaiting trial. The staff will buy yummy snacks and spend time with the children, motivating them under the theme "Saving a child from a life of crime.”

NICRO feels this will be a fitting Tata Mandela 's Day as he led the plight of children by advocating for a children's right movement that led to current policies and legislation on children in conflict with the law.

  • NICRO Pietermaritzburg has volunteered to do some social and physical activities with the residents of ELC Emseni Old Age Home in Edendale.

Some of the fun activities will include: exercises, reading to residents, musical activities and assisting with arts and crafts.

  • NICRO Empangeni will visit Ngwelezane Place of Safety to provide love and care to the children in need. Lend a helping hand and assist to perform the duties done by child care workers.

  • NICRO Mitchells Plain have arranged for 35 Safety Ambassadors from Intlanganiso High School to spend their 67 minutes at Nolungile Primary School.

Most of the Safety Ambassadors attended Nolungile Primary School, which is between informal settlements, so it is exposed to many things, that is why they want to encourage the theme: “Feelings Count."

At 12h00 the Safety Ambassadors will start off their 67 minutes by focusing on the Grade R learners and discussing how emotions do affect the classroom environment. They will then spend their last 20 minutes cleaning the school yard for the children.

  • NICRO Durban will send 67 messages to 67 young people regarding crime and the impact of crime on their lives. The cost of the 67 messages will be covered by a staff member.

Use your time to help NICRO by sending your very own message to a youth in need!

We urge you to give us just 67 minutes of your time and help NICRO build a better South Africa.
